Flooded forests of the Mekong, Cambodia

The unique flooded forests of the Mekong near Stung Treng, a Ramsar wetland site of special importance, only a few km down river from deep pools, where one of the last remaining populations of the critically endangered Irrawaddy dolphins used to survive, including during my visits in 2012 and 2013. As per recent report IUCN April-2023 however the dolphins are no longer found here. Changed hydrology caused by dams operating upstream, combined with illegal fishing and logging and exacerbated by climate change all damage the ecosystems.
